I grew up going on hunting trips out of the very same camp I hunt and train from today. I’ve always been an outdoorsman and a hunter but the idea of having actual bird hunting dogs had never crossed my mind. Thinking that all dogs were like my old 1/3-Beagle, 1/3-German Shepard, 1/3-trash dog, I was under the impression that I would have neither the patience nor the finesse to deal with dogs. I was completely wrong. When I first started guiding, I only wanted a hunting dog. Again, I was completely wrong. I instantly fell for Jake, our first Springer Spaniel and our first investment in the world of field trials. From then on I was sold: on Springer’s, on bird hunting, and on the people I had met through trialing. These dogs have brought me much more than the occasional chukar; they have been responsible for my newfound patience, demeanor, and career. These dogs and the field trial community are part of my family. Trust me when I say that owning an English springer spaniel is a lasting investment, but it’s one that yields much more than it requires.

Sincerely,
Paul
